We are what we eat. All creatures were made with a particular type of digestive system and particular nutritional needs. Cats are carnivors. Meat eaters. A balanced diet for a cat is nothing at all like a balanced diet for a human being, or even a dog (both omnivores). The basis of cat health, the key to avoiding cat health problems, comes from a healthy cat diet.
Most of the cat food that comes in bags uses chemicals to substitute for natural vitamins and minerals found in natural cat food, and they use grains, which are cheap, to lower the overall cost of the cat food. Cat food in cans is often made of meat by-products (guess what that is) and filler. Given that we feed our cats an inappropriate diet, it’s no wonder that they develop behaviors and diseases.
If you can’t trust the cat food manufacturers, then who do you turn to for advice on healthy cat food, and where do you get it? For that matter, why doesn’t this come up when you are talking with your vet about your cat’s health problems?
Most vets are not trained in animal nutrition or holistic cat treatments. If you have the right information available to you, though, you can open up a new kind of dialog with your vet. The key, then, is to find some simple to follow information that will help you care for you cat the way you really want to. That’s what this blog is about.
